Your new role:
Aviation is an essential capability for modern naval ships that requires the integration of ship/aviation support equipment and systems to ensure safe and reliable operations.
As part of this exciting and interesting role, you will join Hunter Class Aviation Platform team working on a wide and diverse selection of design and integration challenges.
As an Aviation Platform Engineer you will support the design and integration of aviation equipment and systems primarily located on the ships flight deck, hangar and mission bay.
Your position will cover all aspects of operational, functional and physical engineering including, ship/aircraft support equipment & systems, stowage solutions, AVCAT fuelling, hangar maintenance facilities, helicopter handling system(s), verification and validation and certification management.
Key responsibilities for the role also include:
- Producing and developing designs and integration solutions for ship aviation systems and equipment within the major design zones, including but not limited to: Aircraft handling system, visual landing aids, hangar crane, aviation equipment stowage, AVCAT fuel system, etc.
- Support the development of safety and certification evidence to support key aviation and programme technical processes, procedures and legislation
- Liaising with external agencies (the customer, approval authorities, etc.) and suppliers to support delivery of BAE Systems Surface Ships outputs and wider project milestones within budget and to schedule constraints
- Support engineering changes to Aviation services, supporting systems and co-ordination of inputs across design zones and the maturity process
- Produce design and safety documentation (TESs, SOWs, DRGs) and coordinate supplier's reports, CDRLS and DRG submissions
- Support the Senior Aviation Engineer and the Engineering Manager with task planning and delivery.
About you:
As an applicant for this opportunity, you'll have:
- Degree or equivalent qualification/experience in Mechanical/Aerospace/Marine/Systems Engineering with a broad depth of knowledge and experience
- Have a working knowledge of CAD and 3D modelling packages
- Possess a design background in complex engineering projects
- Ability to propose and develop robust design concepts e.g. Spatial and layout designs, equipment and systems integration.
- Self-motivated and able to work effectively under limited supervision
- Demonstrated self-motivation and a proactive approach
Whilst not essential, knowledge of naval aviation, previous experience of working to defence standards and some knowledge of Systems Engineering would be highly regarded.

As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain appropriate clearance.
