Your new role:
As a Linux Team Lead, you will manage a team of around 6 Linux engineers working across JORN's Acquisition and Sustainment programs. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a sizable Linux environment managing operational support and replacement of more than 1200 Linux systems as well as the introduction of new SOEs, applications and automation tools.
More specifically, you will be accountable for:
- Manage a team of Linux Systems Engineers working across both the JORN Acquisition and Sustainment contracts
- Manage workloads, priorities and progress of system changes for Linux Engineers
- Provide leadership and technical direction to direct reports
- Coach direct reports in the achievement of development objectives
- Contribute to the overall JORN ICT strategy, technical direction and plans
- Manage the workload, priorities and tasking of direct reports
- Lead the design, development and implementation of Linux based solutions in accordance with contractual requirements
- Lead the administration and Level 3 support of JORN Linux systems and environments
- Ensure effective configuration and change management control of JORN Linux systems and environments
- Ensure fault detection, performance monitoring, general systems management and timely resolution of systems issues is undertaken
- Review and approve engineering changes within the scope of his/her delegation
- Comply with engineering processes and procedures imposed by the relevant management plans
- Stakeholder management across other ICT teams, other parts of the project and our customer community
- Work using Agile/Scrum methodology in accordance with required priorities and agreed schedules
- Other duties as requested by the Operating Systems Manager (or the delegated authority)
About you:
As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you'll have:
- Demonstrated leadership experience in small to medium sized teams of engineers or administrators
- An understanding of engineering principles and processes
- Experience in a similar role preferably within the Defence sector
- Experience in the design, implementation and system administration of Linux operating systems and environments, ideally with Satellite and Ansible
- Experience in change management and configuration control
- Whilst not essential, an Information, Communication and Technology Degree (ICT) or Engineering related degree or Red Hat certifications is desirable
- Whilst not essential, experience in working with Agile and Scrum processes will be an advantage
- Ability to balance conflicting priorities for self and team to deliver against customer and business requirements, with appropriate stakeholder management.
- Ability to embrace and lead organisation and/or technical change and understand the impact on the business or customer
- Knowledge of cyber security and Information Systems Security Policies and Procedures including the Defence Security Principles Framework
- Australian citizen and eligible to obtain NV2 security clearance
- A willingness to provide occasional out of hours support as required coupled with a can do attitude
