About the OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity to join our Test and Commissioning Team on the Hunter Class Frigate Program as the Test and Commissioning Lead Technician for Power and Propulsion
We embrace flexible work arrangements at BAE Systems Australia, such as working a 9-day fortnight.
The Test and Commissioning planning stream is responsible for ensuring the maintenance, set to work and test activities are planned and ready for execution. As the Test and Commissioning Lead Technician you will be responsible for managing a team that is made up of technicians, apprentices and maintenance trades people, to carry out set to work activities and test the Hunter Class Frigate ships systems according to the engineering, verification and program requirements.
This role also offers the opportunity for a secondment to the United Kingdom working on the Type 26 Frigate Program.
Key responsibilities include:

Day-to-day management of Technicians as they perform the set to work and testing of the power and propulsion elements of the Hunter Class Frigate, test and commissioning program.

Provide expert technical oversight and promote a culture of best practice and knowledge sharing within own discipline.

Responsible for the delivery of the completed power and propulsion testing documentation to the verification team.

Support the development of schedules and budgets, particularly with regard to the power and propulsion systems, as well as the management and maintenance of the associated risk profiles within the risk register.

Support the program planning for technical staff development including:

Development of the competency framework and training plans, and
-
Identification of necessary skillsets, training/upskilling and cross training of resources to mitigate against single points of failure.

Support the generation of strategies and plans, including ensuring all planning documents are in line with the program and business plans and framework.

Responsible for ensuring all of the associated tasks are safely conducted using processes and procedures that are compliant with WHS legislation and the BAE Systems SHE policies.

Support the Verification and Acceptance team in the generation and execution of verification activities.

Support the broader program through program, design and test reviews and further support to meet the training and maintenance obligations of the Support Contract.
About YOU
- Relevant trade and or tertiary qualifications in an Electrical or Mechanical discipline
- Advanced issue resolution, planning and task coordination skills
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience
- Strong communication and teamwork attributes
- Experience in shipbuilding and marine systems
- Experience in diesel generation and associated auxiliary systems
- Experience in electrical propulsion systems and gas turbines
