Design Analyst - Digital (2yr MTC)
-
Design AI-enabled solutions for a utility that serves 370,000 people and a region facing real climate pressure
-
Work at the intersection of strategy, architecture and delivery, where ideas become systems that stick
-
A team that learns out loud, supportive flexible working, and meaningful work
Climate, growth, community expectation and rapid technological change are converging on Barwon Water at the same time. Strategy 2030 is the organisation's deliberate response, a choice to lean into that complexity rather than manage around it. The Digital Business Transformation team is where that choice becomes real work.
The decisions being made in the next ten years - about systems, services, infrastructure and capability - will shape how well our region is served for decades beyond that. The design work that makes those decisions possible starts now, and this role is part of it.
About the Role
This is a hands-on design role where you’ll contribute to one of the most consequential periods in Barwon Water's history. The role works closely with technology teams, architects, engineers and delivery squads to deeply understand how the business operates today and what it needs to become. This will frame the right problems and produce governance-ready design artefacts such as journey maps, service blueprints, solution options and value propositions.
By bridging human insight with technical and architectural constraints you’ll ensure solutions are feasible, aligned to strategic priorities, and capable of delivering lasting transformation rather than short-term fixes.
From facilitating discovery workshops and testing solution options against enterprise standards, to ensuring design intent carries through from discovery into delivery, the work is varied, substantive and never finished in a predictable way.
You’ll participate in cross-functional delivery squads to make sure what gets built solves the right problem, and the design does not get lost in translation.
This is a 2 year maximum term contract until June 2028.
About you
You’re naturally curious and comfortable in ambiguity, with a knack for cutting through complexity to frame the right problem before jumping to answers. You’re an active listener who asks better questions and synthesizes insight into something people can act on.
You’re comfortable collaborating with architects and testing ideas against reference models, not designing in isolation. Through your expertise you’ll bring influence to key stakeholders, building trust across frontline teams, technical specialists and senior leaders, adapting your communication to those from a non-technical background.
Your qualifications in IT, Business or similar will be underpinned by experience in human-centred design, analysis or service design. With confidence producing journey maps, service blueprints and clear problem statements that inform investment decisions, you will be empowered to design the best solutions possible on our digital journey.
