Purpose of the Role
BGIS is seeking an experienced General Manager – Asset Management to lead the strategic asset management function for a newly awarded Victorian government contract. This role is central to ensuring long-term asset care, lifecycle optimisation, compliance, and evidence-based investment planning across a large and diverse property portfolio.
Reporting to senior contract leadership, you will work collaboratively with BGIS teams and government stakeholders to shape asset strategy, guide lifecycle forecasting, and deliver trusted asset intelligence that supports informed decision-making, operational efficiency and public value.
The ideal candidate brings a balanced blend of strategic thinking, technical understanding, and people-focused leadership, with a genuine interest in collaboration, clarity, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and guide the portfolio-wide asset management strategy in line with contract requirements and the Asset Management Accountability Framework (AMAF)
- Oversee asset data governance, accuracy and completeness across a large multi-site portfolio
- Lead long-term asset plans, lifecycle forecasts and capital investment programs
- Provide strategic advice on asset risk, prioritisation, value for money and compliance
- Support multi-year renewal and risk mitigation planning using data-led insights
- Lead and support a multidisciplinary asset team, including planners, analysts and technical specialists
- Oversee AMAF alignment, audit readiness and technical reporting obligations
- Champion digital uplift, analytics and asset systems to improve visibility and decision-making
- Build trusted working relationships with senior client stakeholders and governance forums
- Prepare clear, transparent reports and recommendations to support strategic outcomes
Education, Experience & Skills
Essential:
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Asset Management, Facilities Management or a related field
- Extensive experience in strategic asset management across large or complex portfolios
- Strong understanding of lifecycle planning, statutory compliance, asset risk and AMAF principles
- Demonstrated experience leading senior asset, engineering or technical teams
- High proficiency with asset systems, FM technologies and data-driven reporting
- Clear, considered communication skills and the ability to present complex information thoughtfully
Desirable:
- Experience within government, infrastructure, utilities or large public sector portfolios
- Certification or formal training in ISO 55001 or recognised asset management frameworks
- Experience supporting digital transformation or asset data uplift programs
Workplace Flexibility
This role is hybrid, based from the Melbourne CBD office with 3 days onsite and 2 days working from home. Core business hours apply with some additional ad hoc hours require. Flexibility around start and finish times. Occasional site visits across the Melbourne CBD may be required.
