About the Role
Reporting into the Superintendent – Raisebores, Projects & Infrastructure, this role is a key enabler for the safe and effective execution of underground raiseboring works, including ore passes and ventilation raisebores. The works are critical to the Prominent Hill materials handling system implementation and site uplift from 4.5Mtpa to 7.5Mtpa as the shaft is commissioned and mine ramps up.
The Mining Specialist provides strong in‑field technical support, coordination and verification, ensuring raiseboring activities are executed in accordance with plans, standards and safety requirements. The role supports contractor performance, contributes to planning and reporting, and ensures delivered infrastructure is ready for downstream construction and operational use.
This is a hands‑on role requiring a strong underground presence and close collaboration with operations, projects, engineering and construction teams.
This role is based at Prominent Hill, FIFO from Adelaide or Port Augusta. Roster options include 8/6 or 4/3.
In this role you will:
- Support the safe execution of raiseboring activities in line with BHP standards, site requirements and approved plans
- Work closely with the embedded Raisebore Contractor to support day‑to‑day execution, sequencing and issue resolution
- Provide in‑field verification of works, ensuring activities align with design, quality and readiness requirements
- Assist with contractor performance management, including compliance with scope, standards and work practices
- Support the Superintendent with planning inputs, schedule updates, progress tracking and reporting
- Identify and escalate operational, safety and delivery risks, supporting the implementation of effective controls
- Maintain a strong quality focus, ensuring completed raisebores are fit‑for‑purpose and ready for handover to downstream construction (grizzlies, chutes and associated infrastructure)
- Coordinate with site operational and technical teams to support seamless handover and integration of completed works
- Assist with Operational Readiness activities, ensuring completed infrastructure is operationally viable upon completion
- Work with the operational teams to assist in operational improvement plans and continuous improvement
About You
- Underground operational mining experience is preferred, but not essential,
- Any exposure to raiseboring, vertical development or underground infrastructure will benefit
- Experience working alongside contractors in an operational or project delivery environment
- Contracts and financial management will be advantageous
- Understanding of safe work execution, risk identification and in‑field verification
- Experience contributing to planning, scheduling and progress reporting in a mining or projects context
- A quality‑focused mindset, with attention to detail and readiness for downstream construction and operations
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively across operations, projects and technical teams
