About the Role
Reporting to the Head of Corporate Affairs and Communications, Western Australia, the Manager, Communications – WA is a senior leadership role within the WA Corporate Affairs team.
The role is responsible for setting and delivering the communications strategy for Western Australia, supporting the protection and enhancement of BHP’s reputation, enabling operations, and helping the business navigate complex and high‑profile issues in a highly scrutinised environment.
Working closely with senior leaders and Corporate Affairs colleagues across Government Relations, Community and Media, the role provides trusted communications counsel and leads integrated communications activity spanning leadership, employee, issues and crisis, and external and digital communications.
This role is based in Perth, Western Australia.
Your accountabilities will include, and not be limited to:
- Leading the development and delivery of an integrated Western Australia communications strategy, aligned to Corporate Affairs priorities, business strategy and enterprise‑wide narratives.
- Providing trusted strategic communications advice to senior leaders across Western Australia on reputational, operational and stakeholder issues.
- Leading and developing a high‑performing communications team, fostering a safe, inclusive culture and building capability for the future.
- Overseeing leadership and employee communications to ensure employees across WA are informed, engaged and connected to BHP’s strategy and values.
- Playing a senior role in issues management and crisis communications, supporting effective preparedness and response through timely, accurate and coordinated communications.
- Overseeing external, media and digital communications activity in Western Australia, in partnership with specialist teams, to positively shape BHP’s profile and positioning.
- Ensuring disciplined brand stewardship and high‑quality execution of communications and campaigns across all WA channels.
- Collaborating closely with WA Corporate Affairs peers and national and global communications colleagues to ensure alignment, consistency and impact.
About You
You are an experienced communications leader with a strong track record operating in complex and highly visible environments. You bring strong people leadership, strategic acumen and a calm, considered approach, particularly when navigating ambiguity and pressure.
You are forward‑thinking, energetic and innovative, with a strong understanding of the external landscape and emerging trends. You know how to translate insight into action and deliver high‑impact communications and campaigns that cut through, influence outcomes and strengthen reputation.
You are a confident adviser to senior leaders, able to connect communications strategy to business priorities, risk and opportunity. You lead with authenticity, value people leadership, and are committed to developing inclusive, high‑performing teams.
Your experience spans external communications, employee communications, issues management and digital engagement. You understand the importance of reputation and how communications contributes to business continuity, trust and long‑term value.
