About the Role
Our Western Australia Iron Ore (WAIO) business contains five mines, four processing hubs and two port facilities, with our Pilbara iron ore business connected by more than 1,000 kilometers of rail infrastructure.
As the Head of Health, Safety, Security and Emergency Response, you will report to the Asset President and a key member of the WAIO leadership team where you will be responsible for shaping and leading the integrated HSSEM strategy across one of the world's largest iron ore operations.
This is a critical enterprise leadership role responsible for shaping and strengthening health, occupational hygiene, safety, security and emergency response across the Iron Ore Asset. Working at the intersection of strategy and operations, you will help ensure critical risks are identified, understood and effectively managed to enable safe, reliable and productive performance.
Partnering with senior leaders across the organisation, you will set strategic direction, build capability, enhance assurance and preparedness, and drive continuous improvement. Through influence, governance and operational leadership, you will play a key role in building a resilient, high-performing organisation that is equipped to respond to an increasingly complex risk environment.
In this role you will be accountable for:
- Leading the integrated Health, Safety, Security and Emergency Response strategy for WAIO.
- Providing trusted advice and challenge to the Asset President and Asset Leadership Team on material and emerging risks.
- Strengthening critical risk management, assurance and governance across the asset.
- Leading preparedness for and response to significant operational, security and emergency events.
- Driving continuous improvement in health, safety, security and emergency management systems and performance.
- Building strong partnerships with regulators, emergency services, government agencies and community stakeholders.
- Developing organisational capability and leadership accountability for risk management and operational discipline.
- Leading and inspiring a multidisciplinary team of functional specialists.
About You
You are a highly regarded and influential leader who thrives in complex, high-consequence environments where balancing risk, performance and people outcomes is critical. Whether your background is in operations, technical leadership, safety, security, emergency management, defence, resources or another large-scale operational setting, you bring the credibility, judgement and resilience to lead through ambiguity and deliver results.
You have a proven track record of operating at senior leadership levels, influencing executive decision-making and translating strategic priorities into practical, measurable outcomes. You are comfortable managing risk at scale, navigating competing priorities and driving performance through strong governance, collaboration and accountability.
Your ability to build trusted relationships, engage diverse stakeholders and lead multidisciplinary teams sets you apart. You bring a calm and considered approach to complex operational, safety, security or emergency challenges, ensuring informed decisions that protect people, support business continuity and create sustainable value.
Ideally, you will have experience in resources, energy, infrastructure, transport, defence, emergency services, heavy industry or similarly complex environments. Exposure to leading geographically dispersed teams, multiple operations and executive-level crisis, emergency or business continuity management will be highly regarded.
A tertiary qualification in Engineering, or a similar qualification is required.
