About the Role
We are seeking a talented professional to join the team as a Drill and Blast Engineer responsible for supporting the development of an executable schedule. This diverse range of work will include identifying risk and opportunities, managing change and communicating the operating strategy without compromising on quality and sustainability, whilst maximising productivity.
Reporting to the Superintendent Mining Standards, the Engineer – Drill & Blast will play an integral role by:
- Serving as the conduit between planning, operations and other key stakeholders, providing technical engineering guidance and support that enables both the schedule and execution thereof.
- Understanding the economic drivers that underpin both revenue and cost within the operation to ensuring these are incorporated into decision making.
- Provide guidance too and validation of explosive forecasting associated with the mine plan.
- Identifying and implementing cultural and process improvement initiatives within the team/operation
- Ensuring that risk in the plan or designs are proactively identified, mitigated and where required adequately controlled
- Assisting the Superintendent with the creation of budgets and forecasts for the Mine Planning area and formulating feasible production forecasts and schedules that account for HSEC, volume and cost requirements
About You

Your interpersonal skills will foster strong working relationships across our, Engineering, Training and Operational teams. In addition to demonstrated ability to consolidate and analyse information, you will have the skills and knowledge to provide critical thinking and a solution-focused attitude.
Required:
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or other related disciplines and/or significant mine site experience.
Desirable:
- Experience in Drill & Blast, mine design or scheduling desirable
- Mine Planning software skills of CAD and Scheduling software packages is desirable not essential (such as Vulcan, Alastri and BlastLogic)
- Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills are required to influence stakeholders in the delivery of positive business outcomes
- C Class drivers licence
Location
You will be based at our new Jimblebar mine site on a fly-in fly-out 8:6 roster. Jimblebar is the first ever Greenfield mine to be both developed and operated by BHP is located 40kms North East of Newman, Western Australia. The facilities at the FIFO village include; a fully equipped gym, netted cricket pitch, basketball court, beach volleyball court and recreation room including a pool table, darts, table tennis, TV and DVD player. All rooms at the village have their own ensuite bathroom, television with Foxtel channels, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
