About Nickel West
Nickel West is a fully integrated mine-to-market business. Our culture is rich with technical know-how, highly efficient and focused on innovation. The business employs over 2,500 people from five operations across Western Australia comprising of nickel underground and open-cut mines, concentrators, a smelter and a refinery. We also have plans to expand our operations with new mines in the northern Goldfields and a large nickel sulphate plant in Kwinana.
The mining operations are located approximately 400km north of Kalgoorlie at Leinster and Mt Keith. Leinster has both underground and small open pit operations, with the underground running block cave, sub level cave and long hole open stopping operations. Mt Keith is both underground and large open pits with the open pit being circa 100-150Mtpa material movement.

About the Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Underground Mining Professional to join the Nickel West team in the capacity of Manager – Mining Leinster
Reporting to the General Manager, Northern Operations Mining, this is an exciting opportunity for a high performing individual to make a significant contribution to Nickel West’s future operations.
The Manager Mining – Leinster will be accountable for both Underground and Open Pit Mines. The Underground Mine has circa 500 people with full SLC Operations in the Venus Orebody and advanced project development on the Below 11L Block Cave and some LHOS satellite orebodies. The Open Pit mines have just entered care and maintenance while further drilling and studies are completed to determine whether further cutbacks or underground mining are viable.
Key to your success will be your ability to manage, prioritise and execute operational excellence in line with BHP’s Charter Values, meet the requirements of statutory obligations whilst maintaining an overriding commitment to Health, Safety & Environment, and productivity improvements.
Key experience and attributes will include:
- Extensive experience in operational managerial roles
- Demonstrated experience in an Underground Mine Manager capacity within a large underground mine environment leading own workforce
- Excellent technical underground mine experience and knowledge, preferably with cave mining and deep high stress mining
- The ability to drive positive safety and production outcomes
- The skills and desire to build successful teams and nurture a high performance, operational culture
About You
An experienced professional with a passion for guiding, developing and coaching teams, you will bring demonstrated success in a similar role with a strong focus on delivering safe, productive and sustainable operational outcomes.
Performance and achievement orientated, you work well under pressure, bringing a high attention to detail and the consistent ability to meet deadlines. Your technical strengths will be complimented by excellent engagement and communication skills. Proactive, credible and influential, you relate well with people, communicating confidently and building strong working relationships with key stakeholders.
In addition, the following skills and experience is required:
- WA First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency is essential
- Results-orientated, works well under pressure and an ability to meet multiple competing deadlines
- Solution focused with the ability to work well under pressure
- A genuine passion and drive to create an inclusive workplace which is free from harassment, discrimination and victimisation
Location
Nickel West Leinster is located 375 kilometres north of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia. The operation sources nickel ore from the Perseverance Underground Mine and Cliffs Underground Mine before crushing and processing to produce a concentrate.
