About the Role

We are currently seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Control Systems Engineer within the Operations Technology (OT) Processing Improvement team.

Reporting to the Superintendent of Central Pilbara Mines, you will be based in the Pilbara on a fly-in fly-out 5:2 4:3 roster from Perth. Our Western Australian Central Pilbara mines are BHP’s most technically advanced and they include Mining Area C, Yandi and South Flank.

You will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Provide control systems support to breakdowns and production critical issues;
  • Investigate and identify the root cause of related downtime caused by control systems and identify and execute solutions to prevent repeat events from occurring;
  • Initiate and implement minor control systems improvement work to achieve safer and more reliable plant, thereby maintaining and improving process efficiencies in line with our business plan;
  • Execute control systems design and commissioning for minor plant modifications and new equipment installation;
  • Provide technical stewardship through a variety of minor work in the electrical and control systems space;
  • Provide governance on all proposed control systems changes on site including critical control effectiveness test and verification.

About You

  • Overriding commitment to achieve the best outcome for control systems safety, design and execution;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively and build relationships with people at all levels of the business;
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills;
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and demands simultaneously;
  • Investigation and Root Cause Analysis experience;
  • Competent in configuring and programming various PLC platforms including Allen Bradley & Schneider PLC’s;
  • Competent in configuring and programming SCADA applications;
  • Knowledgeable in analogue and discrete sensors (e.g. level, flow, pressure, temperature, position);
  • Fieldbus experience of DeviceNet, ControlNet, EthernetIP, Profibus, Profinet & Modbus are advantageous, but not mandatory;
  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical or Mechatronic or Control Systems Engineering or Trade qualifications in Electrical or Instrumentation discipline in equivalent industry and/or organisational experience.
