About the Role
We currently have opportunities to join our Maintenance team in the RSM Rail Workshops in Port Hedland. As a Mechanical Fitter Engineering Technician - Plant Maintenance, you will be responsible for preventative maintenance servicing or repairs, conducting inspections and performing fault-finding on various fixed plant equipment to BHP procedures and Australian Standards. Our workshops have various CNC Machines and Automatic process equipment, such as the Mooka Workshop, which is fully automated with the latest technology in Process Controls/Automations and Robotics.
This is a permanent FIFO position from Perth working 7 days, 7 nights and 14 off roster.
As part of our high performing team you will:
- Work closely with all employees and stakeholders to analyse performance issues, develop, and implement strategies for improvement.
- Fault find and troubleshoot to limit downtime and improve the operational effectiveness of the automated equipment including predictive and preventative maintenance measures.
- Assist in identifying and implementing maintenance opportunities for improvements.
- Notify a Supervisor of any defects/damage on any Plant Maintenance equipment.
- Develop and maintain excellent relationships across site and functional teams to support collaborative outcomes
- Positively contribute to Rails culture; ensuring a strong focus on safety, performance and inclusivity
- Actively engage and contribute in our improvement programs to help improve port every day!
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be motivated, adaptable and eager to learn. Successful candidates will enjoy being part of collaborative and diverse team and will ideally possess the following:
- Australian recognised Mechanical Fitter/Turner trade qualification
- Current valid drivers licence
- 1SAP maintenance systems
- An improvement and problem solving mindset
- Experience in automations, process control equipment and environment (beneficial but not mandatory)
- CNC Sinumerik Automation System experience ((beneficial but not mandatory)
- Previous experience and knowledge with Hydraulic & Pneumatics systems
- Excellent mechanical knowledge & interpret technical drawings
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.

Port Hedland – FIFO
You will be based at Port Hedland on a fly-in fly-out 7:7 roster. Port Hedland is home to our port and rail operations and is the largest regional centre in North West Australia. The outstanding facilities at the FIFO villages include; a fully equipped gym, TV lounge and games rooms. Additionally you will have access to the state of the art aquatic and sporting facilities in the town of Port Hedland. All rooms at the villages have their own en-suite bathroom, television, refrigerator and air-conditioning.
