About Oak Dam

The Oak Dam copper discovery is an exciting undeveloped iron oxide copper-gold-uranium mineralised system located on the traditional lands of the Kokatha People, 500km north of Adelaide and 65km south-east of Olympic Dam, South Australia.

Since discovery in 2018, we have been progressing resource definition drilling to advance geological knowledge and commenced order of magnitude studies to identify viable development pathways with the potential to materially contribute towards BHP’s copper growth strategy.

About the Role

As the Principal Studies (Resource & Mining) you will have a unique opportunity to be involved in this exciting Greenfields project, supporting the Oak Dam Study Manager within the Olympic Dam (OD) Strategic Planning and Studies (SP&S) Team. You will be highly motivated with strong communication and collaboration skills in a dynamic environment, have a willingness to learn and a desire to succeed. Your role will be non-technical however your previous experience in underground mining, geology, geotechnical or other geoscience-related field will be highly valued.

This role will be based in Adelaide offering excellent flexibility.

In this role you will:

  • Support the Oak Dam Study Manager to maintain a positive and collaborative team culture
  • Develop and maintain study phase routines for monitoring and reporting of performance metrics including cost, schedule, risk and field leadership activities
  • Identify and implement improvement opportunities to drive efficiencies through study delivery and approvals processes
  • Co-ordinate internal multidisciplinary technical work streams such as Mining, Geotechnical Engineering and Geoscience to ensure alignment with stakeholder requirements and project key value drivers
  • Co-ordinate and manage engineering activities being undertaken by external service providers including interfaces with internal work streams
  • Co-ordinate and manage interfaces and battery limits with underground infrastructure, surface processing and non-process infrastructure work streams
  • Co-ordinate and manage functional study inputs including Health, Safety, Environment, Risk, Decision Evaluation, Marketing, Legal and Approvals
  • Participate and provide input into routine monthly reporting, risk review and key decision making processes including trade-off studies and Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA)
  • Prepare and present key findings to a wide range of internal stakeholder groups
  • Support study phase governance and assurance processes

About You

  • Solid experience in early phase studies or project engineering role
  • A background in mine planning, geotechnical, geology, resource engineering or other geoscience related field
  • A positive outlook with the ability to motivate and inspire others
  • Business acumen and strategic thinking supported by advanced problem framing and solving skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex messages to a variety of audiences
  • Able to plan and organize self and work in order to achieve study objectives and milestones
  • Drives collaboration within and across teams to ensure effective execution of the study
  • Demonstrates a willingness to adapt with changing priorities and focus
  • An overriding commitment to health, safety, environment, sustainability and social value
  • Seizes opportunities to do things better and think outside the square
