About the Role

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, you will have responsibility for safety, budget and costs, shutdown and daily work execution of the Electrical, Instrument and Control Systems team. You will also be responsible for plant availability/reliability as it relates to the HV and LV electrical infrastructure and equipment at the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter.

This role will be a residential based role in Kalgoorlie..

In this role you will also:

  • Providing leadership to, and managing the activities of the NKS Electrical and Instrument Maintenance Execution team
  • Maximise plant availability through the execution of quality maintenance work
  • Continually improve plant reliability and maintenance work practices
  • Manage the risk review process for the HV and LV electrical infrastructure and equipment
  • Develop operating and capital forecasts and budgets for the department
  • Monitor and approve operating and maintenance expenditure for the department
  • Provide Contractor Leadership and communication as contract owner
  • Deliver BOS principles with all teams and driving improvement in all areas

About You

To be considered for this role, previous Electrical Maintenance leadership experience in a mining, heavy industrial or chemical plant operation together with relevant tertiary engineering qualifications is desirable. Will consider applicants with trade backgrounds with demonstrated success at Superintendent Level. Experience with SAP maintenance work management systems would be beneficial.

Personal qualities that you bring will include strong leadership skills, a high level of safety awareness, excellent communication and strong operational discipline. The ability to use initiative, be flexible and contribute effectively to a multi-disciplinary team is essential along with a focus on customer service.


In addition, we are ideally looking for the following skills and experience:

  • Tertiary qualified (Engineering) or relevant maintenance experience in process plants.
  • Significant experience in leadership roles of large teams.
  • Experience working in complex facilities will be advantageous.
  • Proven track record of working with external and functional teams.
  • A proven track record in safety management.
  • Demonstrated success building cohesive and effective teams.
  • Solution-focused with the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Deep foundational leadership which supports team growth and development.
  • A continuous improvement mindset.
