About the Role

Reporting to the Vice President External Affairs New Country Entry and Exploration, this role is the senior representative for BHP on the Kabanga Nickel Project and has responsibility for BHP’s management on external affairs and related matters including social value, compliance, community, human rights and resettlement matters.

As Manager, you will provide leadership to the team members for Ethics & Compliance, Government Relations, Communities & Resettlement, Social Value including de-carbonisation, Closure, Communications. internal and external relationships are key to success, particularly given the responsibility to engage with Kabanga Management team and consult particularly to meet closure objectives.

Operating as a subject matter expert, it is expected that this leadership role harnesses skills in governance establishment, risk management, reporting as well as strategy and planning to deliver enterprise wide outcomes.

Accountabilities with the biggest impact are as follows:

  • Robust and fit for purpose Resettlement Action Plan
  • Human Rights Impact Assessment that addresses any exposures
  • Gap analysis and resolution focused activities
  • Host resettlement land is secured and additional influx post cut-off date is minimised and managed appropriately
  • Risk based compliance controls developed with a good compliance culture
  • Management of executive positioning with key stakeholders in alignment with the broader business
  • Internal and external reporting requirements

Note: the role is available for an initial period of 18 months, located in Perth WA.

About You

Action orientated and a natural communicator, you will apply excellent written and oral communication practices across all facets of the role. This includes demonstrating interpersonal skills to influence at all levels (including influencing through others).

Experience and requirements of the role include:

  • Academic degree and professional qualification in social or political science, public policy, community or international development, planning or other relevant fields
  • Knowledge and/or experience of resource projects in Africa and Europe
  • Strong organisational leadership & management skills with a demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate staff as well as influence outcomes without direct authority
  • Highly skilled and confident public speaker and presenter
  • High Level collaborative, relationship building and networking skills
  • Agile and able to adapt to changing environments with competing priorities and complex issues.
