About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a role in managing the geotechnical risk of the Carrapateena operation, as we safely increase production from our deepening SLC operation while also building a brand-new block cave (and associated infrastructure). It is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience at an operating caving mine, that is also in the process of expanding to block caving.

This position is based at Carrapateena on an 8 days on / 6 days off FIFO roster from Adelaide.

In this role you will:

  • Help manage geotechnical risks, and develop and verify ground support standards during the mining of a major chamber underground (transfer chamber)

  • Ensure quality control & assurance (QAQC) of ground support systems

  • Support the operation by continued geotechnical data collection and interpretation for update of geotechnical\structural models, major infrastructure design, ground control planning and long-term development\production plans

  • Manage geotechnical monitoring databases

  • Respond to geotechnical hazards including cave, seismicity, ground control and inrush/mudrush

  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive value-add projects

  • Communicate to key stakeholders with respect to geotechnical hazard management

  • Design & execute instrumentation programs to aid geotechnical hazard management

  • Other geotechnical role functions as required

About You

You are a driven individual who works well in a team, likes to think outside of the box, and strives for technical and operating excellence.

You also have:

  • Geotechnical Engineering experience in an underground metalliferous mine preferred

  • Undergraduate qualifications in either Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or Earth Sciences (Geology, Geophysics)

  • Ability to work in high pressure and dynamic environments

  • Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships

  • Ability to work independently in office and underground

Experience with the following:

  • Implementation of geotechnical processes and systems

  • QAQC of ground support systems

  • Geotechnical mapping, monitoring systems, ground support calculations / designs and stability analyses

  • Establishing and/or maintaining aspects of a geotechnical management system

  • Collection & interpretation of geotechnical observations and geological data (structure)

  • Experience using mining\geotechnical software (Deswik, MxRap, IMS suite, Leapfrog)
