Box Hill Institute | Full-time, On-going Position
Join a leading vocational education provider as a Teacher in Outdoor Education and help shape the next generation of outdoor leaders. Based at our Lilydale Lakeside Campus, this hands-on teaching role combines classroom learning with immersive, real-world outdoor experiences across regional and remote locations.
You'll play a key part in delivering high-quality training that empowers students to build meaningful careers in Australia's outdoor recreation sector.
This is a full-time, on-going opportunity. Salary range aligns to the current MEA: L1.1 - L3.5 $84,618 - $128,887 per annum (dependent on qualifications & experience), plus 12% superannuation.

About the role
As a Teacher - Outdoor Education, you will deliver engaging, industry-aligned training within the Certificate IV in Outdoor Leadership. Working within a collaborative and innovative teaching environment, you will support students to achieve their goals, develop employability skills, and transition into further study or employment.
This role is primarily based at Lilydale, with regular travel to remote and regional locations for field delivery, as well as occasional work at other campuses as required.
What you'll do:
- Deliver dynamic, student-centred training and assessment using blended and flexible learning approaches
- Design and develop high-quality, compliant teaching resources and assessment materials
- Facilitate engaging learning experiences both in the classroom and in outdoor/field-based environments
- Build strong relationships with industry to ensure course delivery aligns with current workforce needs
- Support students' development of practical skills, employability and career pathways
- Conduct workplace visits and maintain connections with employers and community organisations
- Foster a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment
About You:
You are a passionate educator and outdoor industry professional who thrives in dynamic, hands-on learning environments. You bring a strong commitment to student success and the ability to adapt your teaching to diverse learner needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122)
- Relevant vocational qualification in Outdoor Leadership, Outdoor Recreation or a related field
- Demonstrated industry experience within outdoor recreation and/or leadership disciplines
- Experience in teaching outdoor education in secondary schools will be highly regarded.
Skills & Capabilities
- Demonstrated skills and/or capabilities in at least one (or multiple) of the following outdoor activities: bushwalking, canoeing, climbing, or mountain biking, with the ability to support and engage participants safely and confidently.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport across diverse groups
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, wellbeing and inclusive education practices
- Understanding of compliance, OH&S, and regulatory requirements within vocational education
- Alignment with a child-safe, inclusive and values-based workplace
- Have, or be willing to obtain, Victorian Working with Children Check and National Police Check clearance.
