About the role:
A rewarding opportunity to join Box Hill Institute as the Support Officer - Literacy and Numeracy within the Schools Unit at our City Campus. This opportunity is 3 days per week until June 2024.
The Support Officer - Literacy and Numeracy is responsible for providing a range of strategic and individually responsive liaison and support services to students with language, literacy and numeracy gaps, diagnosed and undiagnosed disabilities, learning disorders and general learning gaps, consulting closely with them on their needs, including providing sound and practical guidance and support to ensure effective participation and retention.
You will be providing support through establishment of individual learning plans, arranging reasonable adjustments within the classrooms and through timetabling. You will provide advice to management and other employees in delivering effective programs which are inclusive of students and ensure students are consulted regarding their needs.
The Schools Unit is unique within Box Hill Institute due to its diversity of students, stakeholders, delivery methods and broad business function. Responsible for the delivery and compliance of all senior secondary educational certificates, the Schools Unit has taken a leading role with the introduction of the VCE Vocational Major and Victorian Pathways Certificate, while remaining one of the largest providers of VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VDSS).
Working with more than 3,000 students and 250 Schools, the Schools Unit has set its sight on becoming a ‘centre of excellence’ that integrates and aligns with the Institute’s broader strategic and business operations plans
This opportunity is based at our City Campus and is .6 FTE (3 days per week) commencing late January until June 2024. Salary is PACCT 4 pro rata $62,687.00 per annum (exclusive of superannuation).
About You:
- A tertiary qualification in learning support services or a related study area
- Significant experience in learning disorders and language, literacy, numeracy and digital capability support, preferably within the secondary school or TAFE sector
- Strong understanding of the Disability Discrimination Act, the Equal Opportunity Act and other relevant legislation, and their implications for education and training, as well as the ability to inform, guide and negotiate outcomes which are inclusive, effective, minimise costs and optimise client outcomes
- Demonstrated experience in developing and supporting teaching and/or participation strategies which are inclusive of learners and students with language, literacy, and numeracy gaps, diagnosed and undiagnosed learning disorders and general learning gaps
- Ability to clarify needs and expectations of clients, develops practical solutions using their subject expertise. Liaises and responds to client needs
- Demonstrates high-level awareness of and responsiveness to people from a
broad range of diverse backgrounds and emotional contexts, is able to shape responses for people, and see issues from the perspective of others
- Cooperates and works well with other in pursuit of team goals, shares knowledge and information appropriately, shows consideration, concern and respect for the feelings and ideas of others’, and works well with different working styles
