Casual Teacher (Deaf Project)
About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity to work at Box Hill Institute as our Casual Teacher (Deaf Project). This is a casual opportunity to September 2025, based at our CBD Campus. This position reports directly to the Site Manager - City, and sits within the AMEP area of the Foundation Education College.
What you'll do:
- Work alongside a TESOL qualified AMEP teacher in the classroom two days a week over 2025 to develop the students' Auslan and reading and writing skills in English.
- Contribute to the development of the syllabus and methodology used for the course for beginner Deaf AMEP learners
- Support student success in participating in the program
- Assist the communication between the AMEP teacher and Deaf students
- Contribute to the ongoing improvement of the program
About you:

- Victorian Working with Children Check clearance
- National Police Check clearance
Qualifications and experience:
- Auslan skills equivalent to Certificate IV or above
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116/22) or a qualification at diploma level or higher in Adult Education
- Involved within the Deaf community (desirable)
- Current and sound experience in the relevant field
- Demonstrated ability or the capacity to work and provide support and advice to Deaf students and BHI employees of diverse cultures, backgrounds and abilities
- Demonstrated high level awareness of, and responsiveness to, people from a broad range of diverse backgrounds and emotional contexts including people in the Deaf community.
- Experience in planning and researching for the preparation of programs and learning materials that cater for Deaf adults and well-developed skills in transferring knowledge
