Student Accessibility Liaison Officer
About the role:
We have an exciting opportunity to work at Box Hill Institute as our Student Accessibility Liaison Officer. This is part-time (0.8EFT), ongoing opportunity based at our Box Hill Campus. This position reports directly to the Manager - Student Accessibility Support Services, and sits within the Student Life area of the Student Experience portfolio.
What you'll do:
- Responsible for providing advice and support to students with a diagnosed disability and/or health condition that impacts on their ability to participate in their studies and achieve their learning goals.
- Work closely with students and staff across the Institute to identify and support the implementation of reasonable adjustments to teaching and assessment and inclusive educational practices.
- Increase accessibility awareness, retention and outcomes through knowledge and strategy
- Contribute to broader Student Life projects and plans

- Ability to effectively build and maintain effective business relationships
- Victorian Working with Children Check clearance
- National Police Check clearance
Qualifications and experience:
- Tertiary qualification in Education, Disability, Inclusion, Health, Community Services or related field with relevant work experience or an equivalent combination of education/training and significant relevant experience
- Significant experience working with people with accessibility needs or a health condition, preferably within the tertiary education sector
- A strong understanding of the Disability Discrimination Act, the Equal Opportunity Act and other relevant legislation, and their implications for education and training, as well as the ability to inform, guide and negotiate outcomes which are inclusive, utilise resources effectively, and optimise client outcomes
- Demonstrated experience in developing and supporting teaching and/or participation strategies which are inclusive of all students
- Clarifies needs and expectations of clients, develops practical solutions using their subject expertise. Liaises and responds to client needs
- Communicates well with, relates to and sees issues from the perspective of people from a diverse range of cultures, backgrounds and abilities. Pays attention to words, expressions and body language, paraphrases to check understanding and shapes responses based on a range of information
- Demonstrates high-level awareness of and responsiveness to people from a broad range of diverse backgrounds and emotional contexts, is able to shape responses for people, and see issues from the perspective of others
- Identifies processes, tasks and resources required to achieve a goal, developing systems to guide and track progress, effectively finding solutions to barriers
