About the role:
Box Hill Institute are looking for a Workplace Relations Advisor to join our People & Culture team!
As a Workplace Relations Advisor reporting to the Workplace Relations Manager, you will play a pivotal role in helping to create a fair, compliant, and positive workplace. You'll manage complex employee relations matters, provide expert guidance on workplace legislation, and partner with leaders to reduce risk. Key responsibilities include leading complex investigations, preparing documentation for regulatory proceedings, and ensuring compliance with the Fair Work Act and other relevant laws. Your expertise will shape strategies that uphold procedural fairness, support business objectives, and foster a culture of respect and accountability.
This is a full-time, ongoing position, located at our Elgar campus in Box Hill.
Key Responsibilities
- End-to-end case management of complex matters, including workplace disputes, serious misconduct, performance issues, discrimination and harassment complaints.
- Provide timely, accurate Employee Relations advice on conduct, performance, grievances, entitlements, and compliance with relevant industrial instruments, the Fair Work Act 2009 (Cth) and other workplace laws.
- Prepare documentation for Fair Work Commission proceedings, conciliations, and hearings if required
- Conduct thorough, legally compliant investigations into allegations of serious misconduct, performance issues, discrimination, bullying, harassment, and legislative breaches.
- Advise on enterprise agreements, awards, and broader industrial relations frameworks.
- Partner with senior leaders, HR teams, and legal counsel to mitigate risks and ensure compliance with legislation and industrial instruments.
- Analyse internal data to identify Employee Relations trends and recommend strategies to address them.

About you:

- Degree in HR, Industrial Relations, Law, or completion of legal subjects within a commerce/business degree.
- Strong experience in workplace relations, employment law, or related legal discipline.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex investigations and high-risk ER matters through to resolution.
- Solid understanding of the Fair Work Act 2009, discrimination law, WHS legislation, and relevant case law.
- Ability to communicate clear and professional advice through correspondence to stakeholders at every level.,
- Proven ability to manage a diverse caseload and resolve matters efficiently and compliantly.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with confidence to influence senior leaders.
- Pragmatic, solutions-focused mindset with strong analytical and communication skills.
- Experience advising on performance issues, misconduct, terminations, industrial disputes, and health-related matters in large, complex environments.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present data effectively.
- Sound understanding of procedural fairness and natural justice.
- Have, or be willing to obtain, Victorian Working with Children Check and National Police Check clearance.
