Overview
The Executive Creative Director (ECD) is responsible for leading the creative vision and output of the agency. The role ensures the delivery of high-quality, strategically grounded creative work that drives measurable business results for clients, with a particular focus on retail and consumer brands.
The ECD is accountable for setting the creative standard across the agency, leading and developing the creative team, and ensuring work consistently balances brand-building creativity with commercially effective outcomes. This includes delivering integrated campaigns across brand, retail, digital, social, content, e-commerce and experiential channels.
The role also plays a critical part in shaping client relationships, contributing to business development and positioning the agency as a leading creative partner for retail and commerce-led brands.

Key Responsibilities
Creative Leadership
- Set and maintain the overall creative vision and standard for the agency.
- Lead the development of integrated creative ideas across brand, retail, digital, social, e-commerce and experiential channels.
- Ensure creative work is strategically grounded, commercially effective and executed to the highest craft standards.
- Provide direction, feedback and mentorship to Creative Directors and the broader creative team.
- Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration and innovation across the agency.
Retail & Commerce Expertise
- Lead the development of creative solutions that drive both brand growth and retail performance.
- Ensure creative thinking reflects the realities of retail marketing, including promotional cycles, seasonal campaigns, product launches and retail trading moments.
- Balance long-term brand-building creative with short-term sales-driving communications.
- Develop ideas that connect brand storytelling with commerce and measurable outcomes.
Omnichannel Customer Experience
- Ensure creative thinking considers the full retail ecosystem across physical and digital touchpoints.
- Lead the development of integrated ideas that work across store environments, digital platforms, social channels, e-commerce and content ecosystems.
- Ensure creative solutions support seamless customer journeys from brand awareness through to purchase.
- Partner with strategy and client teams to ensure creative ideas are relevant across all retail touchpoints.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor and develop the creative department, ensuring a strong and sustainable creative culture.
- Support the growth and development of Creative Directors and emerging creative leaders.
- Foster collaboration between creative, strategy, account management and production teams.
- Ensure appropriate creative resourcing across projects and accounts.
Client Leadership
- Act as a senior creative partner to key clients.
- Present and defend creative work at senior client levels.
- Build strong relationships with marketing leadership teams and key stakeholders.
- Ensure creative solutions address real business challenges and deliver measurable outcomes.
Business Development
- Contribute to new business pitches and agency growth opportunities.
- Lead the creative response to briefs for new clients and major opportunities.
- Help position the agency as a leading creative partner for retail and consumer brands.
Creative Operations
- Ensure creative work is delivered efficiently within project timelines and budgets.
- Work closely with production and project management teams to ensure ideas are executed effectively.
- Maintain strong creative processes that support the delivery of integrated campaigns
Success Measures
- Delivery of high-quality creative work that drives both brand impact and commercial performance.
