The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world.

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role:

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting various laboratory tests on construction materials, ensuring they meet specified standards and contribute to the overall success and safety of the Snowy 2.0 Project.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or equivalent certification in Laboratory Technology, Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in a laboratory or construction materials testing role.
  • Familiarity with relevant laboratory equipment and testing methods.
  • C Class Driver’s Licence
  • White Card

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a laboratory role within the construction industry, preferably in tunnelling projects.
  • Proficiency in conducting tests on construction materials such as soil, concrete, shotcrete and rock.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols.

Required Competencies:

  • Expertise in conducting various laboratory tests on construction materials, ensuring accuracy and reliability of results.
  • Familiarity with and ability to operate laboratory testing equipment.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems and NATA requirements related to laboratory testing, reporting and documentation
  • Sound negotiation and problem-solving skills
  • Strong initiative and proactive nature
  • Key collaborative skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-developed time management skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Exceptional knowledge and ability in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct laboratory tests on construction materials, including soil, concrete, shotcrete and rock, in accordance with project specifications and standards as well as NATA requirements.
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory testing equipment, ensuring proper calibration and functionality.
  • Accurately record and report test results, maintaining comprehensive documentation of laboratory activities.
  • Adhere to and promote laboratory safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Identify and address challenges related to laboratory testing, providing effective solutions.
  • Effectively communicate test results and findings to project teams, engineers and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with construction crews, project managers, and other laboratory technicians to ensure seamless integration of testing processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency in laboratory testing procedures.
