The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world.

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role:

The Chief Estimator is responsible for the oversight of the estimating process for the Snowy 2.0 Project and will establish standardised procedures, methods and processes for estimating and training estimating resources.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Administration, or equivalent related work experience.
  • White Card

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 or more years estimating or project experience in Construction Industry in a similar role – preferred
  • Experience working on large scale construction projects or other suitable projects works
  • Experience in all computer software programs used in estimating such Microsoft Excel, CCS Candy, STR Vision CPM and Primavera

Required Competencies:

  • Demonstrated ability to develop sound working relationships with operations management in the delivery of value added management information
  • Excellent communication, organisational and problem solving skills
  • A pro-active approach with the capability to adapt to changing priorities
  • Ability to effectively manage and train team members
  • Ability to meet deadlines and put in the time needed to get the job done.
  • Ability to breakdown construction operations into a logical sequence of activities
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Possess strong mathematical and computer skills. Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to professionally communicate the basis for individual work product when in a highly stressed environment
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to recognize discrepancies

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Assigns responsibilities for estimating team on each project.
  • Reviews project plans and specifications and coordinates with the team to confirm complete scope.
  • Identify risk issues and their order of magnitude
  • Solicit subcontractor and/or supplier information & pricing
  • Prepares instructions to bidders, bid form and other bid solicitation information as required.
  • Performs and/or manages the quantity survey and pricing effort for internal budgets.
  • Prepares conceptual budgets based on minimal information.
  • Reviews general conditions, schedule, scopes of work, hoisting plans, site logistics and other exhibits
  • Ensures the flow of project information is maintained and documented.
  • Reviews and/or manages the review and scoping of specialty contractor bids.
  • Coordinates insurance requirements with Risk Manager..
  • Maintains and communicates data on construction and material cost trends affecting project costs
  • Analyse alternate means and methods to determine the most economic alternative
