What you’ll be doing
Technology at Coles will reinvent and transform the shopping experience to best suit our customers' needs and making their lives easier. We look ahead to continuously assess how we can apply the latest technologies in innovative ways to constantly improve the shopping experience.
The Data and Intelligence team is at the cutting edge of technology. The function is responsible for driving technology innovation, advancing our ambitions with artificial intelligence, and empowering the group with the fuel that drives all intelligence, data.
Reporting to the General Manager of Data & Intelligence, and as the Head of Tech Innovation, you will lead and drive innovation capability within Technology at Coles, conducting quality research on leading trends, facilitating innovation across Technology and the business, and building leading disruptive technology capabilities.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Create sought after innovation services, developing high performing innovation team with strong innovation and engagement disciplines
- Partner with Head of Strategy, Heads of Technology to understand and align research activities to relevant Coles strategies
- Take a leadership role in researching latest technology trends, and engaging with Chief Executives, General Managers and Heads of to influence Technology and business strategies at Coles
- Partner with key market technology and other research and development companies to accelerate technology innovation at Coles
- Enrich line of business strategies with appropriate disruptive technology perspectives
- Optimise technology spend on research and innovation, prioritising within research constraints, and validating roadmaps
- Facilitate all technology innovation, ideation, accelerated experimentation, trials and proof of concepts to scalable solutions with other Technology teams and broader business
- Lead the development of a disruptive technology capabilities for Coles Group (i.e., computer vision)
- Build disruptive technology capability as lean start-up within large organisation, facilitating high speed to market innovation and experimentation
- Build effective relationships with Business GMs, and strong reputation amongst business Chief Executives
Good things you’ll need
- 3 – 7 years' experience in driving business, product, service innovation or disruptive technology strategies
- 5+ years’ experience in technology, business, product development, marketing, or finance-related fields.
- 3+ years' experience in a management position, leading small to medium sized teams of highly skilled experts in their field
- Demonstrated experience in innovation, innovation frameworks and application of innovation in product, services or technology
- Deep understanding of grocery retailing, and commercial adjacencies preferred but not essential
- Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering technology solutions, retail preferred but not essential
- Demonstrated application of disruptive technologies within a business context, retail preferred but not essential
- Experience in strategy development, setting strategic or innovation roadmaps
- Commercial experience negotiating with third party suppliers, including development of critical partnerships and/or joint ventures
- Proven experience navigating and delivering within large complex corporate environments at pace
- Experience engaging with senior stakeholders (Chief, GM, Head of levels)
- Experience in strategy development, setting strategic roadmaps for large teams
