About the Role | Mō te Tūranga
As the Lead Commercial Analyst, you will provide leadership into the development and execution of Countdown’s commercial buying, pricing, promotions and supplier engagement strategies and support change across the wider Merchandise department. This will include the embedding of commercial tools, participation in commercial initiatives, and ongoing interaction and coaching of teams. The role has cross divisional engagements, to influence and lead commitment so that there is alignment and support of commercial strategies across the Merchandise function. This will include insights into the performance of buying and pricing strategies, optimising promotion programs and ensuring compliance to frameworks.


You will be responsible for:

  • Directly influencing the Merchandise team to deliver required commercial objectives around Promotional performance, Profit recovery & optimisation, Better Buying, Supplied funding maintenance, Price index and Great price.
  • Providing fact-based insights into performance of pricing and strategic initiatives whilst identifying forward looking areas of opportunity
  • Leading and developing commercial training to Merchandise team
  • Preparing and presenting analysis for all levels of Merchandise Management
  • Source data from relevant systems for commercial analytical needs using advanced Excel/Google Sheet, skills in SQL/Bigquery


About You | Mōu

You will have:

  • 5+ years work experience, minimum 3 years experiences in Commercial Analytics and Insights delivery, ideally within FMCG
  • Strong commercial experience with expertise in pricing or promotions preferable
  • Proven experiences in the ability to work with complicated datasets and present insights in a simple manner that drives business decisions
  • Proven experiences in presenting insights and recommendation to stakeholders at different levels and leading difficult conversations
  • Experience in working with data analytics tools eg: Excel, Google Sheet, SQL, Tableau, Bigquery.
