Here at Countdown, we are committed to working towards zero food waste . 100% of our stores have a food rescue partner thanks to our network of nearly thirty different food rescue providers,and we also partner with farmers and composting services to ensure any food that is not fit for consumption is diverted from landfill. In addition, we send cardboard and shrink wrap to recycling and provide a highly valued soft plastic recycling service to our customers at more than 100 of our stores. We truly believe that these steps will enable us to create a better tomorrow for future generations.
We’re looking for Resource Recovery Specialists to advance this work across our stores here in Aotearoa, reporting to our Resource Recovery Manager. In this role you’ll partner with store teams within a set Zone, enabling them to to reduce their overall waste to landfill through the implementation of a best practice resource recovery system. By doing so you’ll further our commitment to achieving zero food waste to landfill by 2025, and make a huge difference to communities in need across the motu.
About the Role | Mō te Tūranga
Ensure Stores within your set zone are reaching their tiered food waste diversion target, enabled by the regular monitoring of food donation levels and food waste contamination in landfill / recycling bins.
Establish and maintain positive relationships with food rescue partners, farmers and waste contractors
Deliver training and provide support to the In-Store Resource Recovery Champions and wider store teams on food waste and recycling standard processes
Identify and seek out ways to reduce food waste e.g. which processes need improvement, analysis of root causes of food waste in the stores
Collaborate with the In-Store Resource Recovery Champions and wider store teams on food waste reduction initiatives or recycling initiatives
Support the smooth running of the Soft Plastics Recycling Scheme service for our customers
Share regular updates with the teams on the progress they’re making and recognise and rewardgood practice
Partner with Operations leaders to support them in food diversion processes
About You | Mōu
This is an exciting role for an individual who is passionate about sustainability and social responsibility. You’ll also demonstrate the following skills and attributes:
- Strong interpersonal and communication skill with the ability to teach others
- Demonstrated operational knowledge and experience of in-store teams and processes.
- Highly organised and focused
- Experience of working across diverse groups of people to deliver results.
- A warm and friendly individual who is energetic and has a “can do” attitude
- Have at least 5 years experience in stores and is likely that your current role is a senior department manager
