We are looking for an experienced External Affairs Lead to strengthen our media presence, shape public messaging and support senior leadership across high‑profile policy, business and economic issues.

Reporting to the Head of External Affairs , you will lead proactive media engagement, manage key relationships, guide organisational spokespeople and manage our communications team

This role can be based in our Melbourne or Sydney office

Your day-to-day duties will include:

• Supporting the development and ongoing improvement of CPA Australia’s media strategy, offering expert advice to ensure effective communication and positive media coverage.
• Coordinating and managing CPA Australia’s media activities, including announcements, interviews, media releases and statements
• Providing advice on issues and crisis management communications
• Fostering and enhancing relationships with reporters, editors and producers, especially in Tier 1 media
• Working collaboratively with CPA Australia’s global PR and media teams to develop media content and ensure alignment of messaging
• Coordinating and facilitating spokespeople for the to ensure CPA Australia is recognised by stakeholders as a trusted and relevant source of knowledge and commentary on accounting, business, political and economic policy matters
• Managing the delivery of speeches, presentations and other member communications for Board and CEO
• Managing a small team of communications specialists

What you’ll bring:

• Experience in media, PR or corporate affairs (journalism experience a plus).
• Strong understanding of business, finance or economic policy.
• Proven ability to secure high‑quality media coverage.
• Strong knowledge of social media platforms and ability to leverage these to enhance communications outcomes
• Excellent writing and messaging skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues.
• Experience advising senior leaders and managing issues or crisis situations.
• Confidence working across social, digital, podcast and video news environments.
• Collaborative leadership style and ability to manage competing priorities
