As a Graduate - Electrical Engineering
An Electrical Engineer working across Callide and Kogan Creek Power Stations plays a key role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electrical assets. Each day involves a mix of strategic planning, field-based inspections, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration. While Callide comes with the complexities of managing older plant systems, Kogan Creek provides exposure to more modern, large-scale infrastructure and advanced digital monitoring technologies. Engineers play a key role in maintenance, fault diagnosis, and contributing to plant enhancements that improve performance and reliability.
Key Daily Activities:
- Attend daily coordination meetings with operations and maintenance teams to align on priorities and safety.
- Participate in the inspection and maintenance of electrical infrastructure, such as transformers, switchgear, motors, protection relays, and other HV equipment, alongside senior engineers.
- Assist in diagnosing and troubleshooting electrical faults by applying theoretical knowledge, often under time pressure, to restore system reliability.
- Review electrical schematics and technical documentation for upgrades or maintenance planning.
- Undertake or assist with root cause analyses following system disturbances, equipment failures, or unit trips.
- Support outage planning, contractor coordination, and supervision during major electrical overhauls.
- Use digital tools for condition monitoring and performance tracking to identify early signs of equipment degradation.
- Contribute to safety through risk assessments, isolation procedures, and adherence to site electrical safety rules.
- Undertake small-scale sustaining or maintenance improvement projects to enhance existing infrastructure using the change management process
