THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a residential role based full-time at Kogan Creek Power Station, Australia’s largest supercritical coal-fired unit, playing a vital role in maintaining energy stability across the NEM well into 2040. As a key member of the Kogan Creek Engineering Team, the Electrical and Control Systems Engineering Supervisor you will support the Engineering Superintendent at the Kogan Creek site by delivering professional engineering services, guidance, and support to ensure the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of power generation assets.
Key accountabilities include (but not limited to):
- Supervise, coach and mentor a team of electrical and control system engineers (EIC), accepting accountability for the team deliverables through safe, efficient and technically robust engineering principles.
- Plan, prioritise and organise the work plan for the Engineering team
- Identify and mitigate key plant risks, meeting both acceptable standards, and business objectives.
- Identify and understand process safety risks, and processes and prioritise engineering works with this in mind.
- Develop, maintain and govern appropriate maintenance and capital strategies for allocated asset areas.
- Identify and implement measures and metrics to monitor, sustain or improve plant area performance, safety, production and reliability.
- Assist in asset governance functions to ensure the consistent application of maintenance standards and processes, monitoring quality and integrity of works.
- Analyse and rectify root cause of failures and incidents of high priority and critical items.
- Contribute to the success of outage and project works, including delivery, governance, scopes, standards, advice and technical direction as required.
- Develop and implement projects as required, in line with the asset strategy that sustains or improves assets in a commercial way.
- Assist in the development of EIC engineering and maintenance budgets and take accountability for the management of the EIC engineering team budget.
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role you will have the following education, skills and experience:
- Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a Senior Engineer within heavy industry plant.
- RPEQ certification or ability to acquire within 6 months of placement.
- A solid understanding of Asset Management principles and their application including equipment strategy, business risk management, RCA investigations and management of change processes.
- Strong integrity and engineering skills in order to manage the plant to run safely and reliably.
- Previous experience in coal fired power plant asset management will be highly regarded.
- Proven experience or significant knowledge of critical equipment operations and maintenance of large generating systems, high voltage and voltage regulation systems
- Proven experience or significant knowledge of emergency backup and protection systems
- Proven experience or significant knowledge of instrumentation and control systems. Experience with Siemens T3000 will be highly regarded.
- Developed business acumen, with experience in developing and managing budgets, and proven experience with delivery of capital funding applications.
