The opportunity

CSIRO Publishing is seeking a detail-oriented Production Editor to support the publication of scholarly journals across a wide range of scientific fields. You will work closely with authors, freelance copyeditors, suppliers, typesetters and internal colleagues to ensure content items are prepared accurately and efficiently for publication.

Your high-level duties will include:

  • Work with suppliers, freelance copyeditors and typesetters to support accurate, timely and error-free publication of scholarly content.
  • Liaise professionally with authors and internal stakeholders to resolve manuscript queries and support a positive author experience.
  • Maintain clear records of production stages and provide feedback to suppliers to support continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to team goals, support colleagues during busy periods and uphold CSIRO’s values, Code of Conduct and commitment to health, safety, diversity and inclusion.

  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple pieces of work.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to liaise professionally with authors, service providers and internal teams.
  • The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team, using initiative and sound judgement to resolve routine issues and escalate when needed.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of, or experience in, journal or book production.
  • Understanding of XML and scholarly publishing workflows.
  • Experience using online text editing or manuscript production platforms.
