The opportunity
Join the Sparked Australian FHIR Accelerator and help strengthen the digital foundations of Australia’s healthcare system. Working within CSIRO’s Australian e-Health Research Centre, you’ll support the tools, testing environments and implementation guides that enable nationally consistent health information exchange.
As a Technical Analyst, you’ll be part of a small, dispersed technical team, providing frontline support to the Sparked community while contributing to technical analysis, testing, issue resolution, documentation and lightweight automation. You’ll work both autonomously and collaboratively, using sound judgement to resolve issues and recognising when more complex matters require advice or escalation.
This is a technical role with a strong development opportunity for someone with experience in technical analysis, testing, technical support or software development who is keen to build their capability in digital health. Digital health and FHIR experience are desirable, but not essential, with structured training and mentoring provided in HL7 FHIR, implementation guides and supporting technical infrastructure.
Your high-level duties will include:
- Providing first-line support to the Sparked community through Jira Service Management, GitHub and chat.fhir.org, triaging and resolving issues and escalating complex matters as required.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of accurate test data aligned with current HL7 AU specifications through automation, documentation and repository administration.
- Undertaking acceptance testing of Inferno test kit releases, analysing test failures and documenting identified issues.
- Supporting the quality assurance and publication of implementation guides through validation, defect correction, issue documentation and release checks.
- Developing and maintain clear, accessible technical and operational documentation for Sparked tools and services.
- Providing routine operational support, including service health checks, monitoring, planned updates, issue tracking and reporting on service availability, usage and support trends.
Role particulars
Location and office arrangements: Brisbane, QLD (preferred); Sydney, NSW; Canberra, ACT; Melbourne, VIC other locations may be considered.
Salary: AU$121k – AU$131k per annum (pro rata for part-time), plus 15.4% superannuation
Tenure & work schedule: Specified term of 18 months; full time

As the successful candidate, you will bring:
- A relevant bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, health informatics or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated experience in a technical analysis, testing, technical support or software development role, including investigating and resolving technical issues independently and reaching evidence-based conclusions from incomplete information.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including documenting technical findings and procedures clearly and explaining technical issues to people with a range of technical backgrounds.
- Working knowledge of RESTful APIs, HTTP and JSON or XML, at least one scripting or programming language (for example Python, TypeScript or Java), and git.
- Demonstrated ability to work under limited direction, including organising own workload, managing competing priorities, making sound decisions within an area of responsibility, knowing when to escalate, and acting on feedback.
- Demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders in a regionally dispersed, multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated interest in digital health and a commitment to learning HL7 FHIR and related health standards.
