The Web & Database Hosting team within CSIRO IM&T Enterprise Platforms group provides general and versatile hosting solutions for both science research web applications and enterprise systems, and the team manages the technical complexities and life cycles of the web platforms to strive for a smooth and secure hosting experience for clients.
The Database Administrator, as part of the database team, is responsible for the database provisioning and ongoing support, providing technical advice relating to the database enquiries, and managing the operation and security of the environments. They understand the capabilities and security characteristics of key databases, and apply that knowledge diligently in daily job, and actively contribute to ongoing service improvement and development within the team.
Primarily, the role is responsible for the efficient and effective database administration of the PostgreSQL Database environment but will also be involved in the support of:
- MongoDB
- MySQL/MariaDB
- Oracle
Your duties will include:
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain databases (lifecycle management)
- Undertake database performance analysis, corrective action, proactive tuning, maintenance, and administration across the entire database infrastructure
- Produce and maintain systems technical documentation
- Initiate change in accordance with IM&T’s Change Management protocol
- Develop and/or enhance standards, procedures, and guidelines
- Contribute to the development of the group’s service standards, procedures, and service improvements.
- Participate in service restoration including disaster recovery activities as required.

Salary: AU$89,680- AU$101,459 plus up to 15.4% superannuation

To be considered you will need:
Essential
- Relevant Tertiary qualifications in IT or equivalent relevant work experience
- Demonstrated Database Administration experience with PostgreSQL Server;
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in scripting in the Linux environments (such as Bash, Python or SQL) and working knowledge of SQL.
- Demonstrated Database Administration experience in one of the following databases:
- MongoDB
- MySQL / MariaDB
- Oracle DB
- Demonstrated ability to assess, analyse and resolve complex issues.
- Effective written and oral communication skills developed through client engagement, networking, and product development.
- Demonstrated ability to coordinate work and contribute effectively to projects/service delivery.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team and carry out tasks under general direction.
Desirable
- Knowledge of and experience with the technical support of hosting commercial or bespoke products in a Linux or Windows environment.
- Knowledge of and experience with: A database monitoring tool; Virtualisation (i.e. VMware vSphere; Agile practices, including the use of JIRA and Confluence.
- A configuration and automation tool (i.e. Puppet, Ansible)
