Job Description
CSL has an exciting opportunity available for a Research Scientist to join our Vascular Biophysics group based at Bio21 Institute, in the heart of Melbourne’s Biomedical Precinct.
In this laboratory-based position, you will focus on the development and performance of investigations into the effect of fluid flow and surface binding on the interactions between blood cells, endothelial cells, and vascular proteins. You will have significant experience with experimental flow and microfluidic systems, and a broad understanding of protein and blood cell function.
You will provide expertise in techniques for analysing the response of individual components of the coagulation, complement and fibrinolytic systems to activators and inhibitors using blood flowing within (endothelialised) microfluidic devices. As a subject matter expert, you will drive improvements in the design and function of our microfluidic systems to support pre-clinical project development within the global CSL research group.
Reporting to the Senior Research Scientist, Vascular Biophysics, you will represent the Vascular Biophysics laboratory in project team meetings and at other internal and external meetings as well as opportunities to participate within multiple projects across several therapeutic areas.
Your Skills and Experience:
- A PhD in biomolecular/biomedical engineering (or related area) with 1 to 3 years post-doctoral experience
- Experience working with microfluidic devices, and an understanding of how the design impacts the rheology
- Experience working with blood products, and conducting assays relating to fundamental blood parameters
- Understanding of protein biochemistry and enzyme kinetics
- Experience with various microscopy techniques, including confocal microscopy
- Ability to independently generate experimental plans, problem solve and adapt approaches when faced with unexpected experimental results
- Experience with cell culture and aseptic techniques would be valuable but not essential
