An opportunity is available to join our Global Pathogen Safety team as a Scientist in the Cells, Virus & Compliance pillar (CVC) at Broadmeadows.
The Role
Reporting to the Senior Scientist, CVC Virus Assay Development and Production, you will
- Participate in new virus assay development and continuous improvement of virus production, concentration and purification
- Participate in performing studies using blood borne human pathogens and model viruses.
- Work in Department of Agriculture Biosecurity certified quarantine containment level 2 & 3 laboratories.
- Participate with the implementation and validation of automation platforms within the department
- Assist in the implementation of Pathogen Safety strategies and objectives.
- Ensure compliance to OECD GLP and biosecurity and OGTR (where applicable)
Other Key Responsibilities Include:
- Assist in preparation of documentation for Facility and process including study protocols, reports, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Liaise with other departments e.g., Regulatory, QC, Production as required.
- Contribute to the development of new procedures and systems.
- Assist in solving routine Pathogen Safety issues.
- Ensure all work is done in a compliant and safe manner
Skills and Experience Required:
- Tertiary qualification/degree in an appropriate scientific discipline with at least 1 year of relevant industry experience
- Established knowledge and work experience with cell culture, virology, machine-learning based image analysis, assay development and validation or another related specialized discipline
- Understanding of the principles of GLP, Australian Biosecurity, OGTR and laboratory safety
- Experience with automated classification of brightfield cytopathic effects, virus production and virus purification will be highly regarded
