The S&I (Sustain and Improve) lead is accountable for the delivery (project KPI and value add realization) of the IPT S&I project portfolio and landscape enterprise wide (except CMC+ and CAPEX projects managed by Project Delivery).
The incumbent will achieve this by:
- Acting as Sponsor, Project lead and/or Technical execution lead for individual S&I Projects & Programs (selecting acting project function based on identified need in the project and priority within the IPT, to assure successful delivery of the project KPIs and output)
- Managing complex interdependencies across all S&I projects in IPT
- Providing input into the business cases for prioritization of new projects
- Working with Tech Dev Lead and IPT Lead to manage resources on a day-to-day basis, addressing urgent needs as they arise (this includes the coordination with the IPT relevant MS&T lead(s), to prioritize and integrate potential operations initiatives and projects within the S&I project portfolio)
- Consolidating updates across S&I projects and providing integrated overview to the IPT lead
- Owning accountability for achieving and delivering KPIs across the entire S&I portfolio
In general the S&I role is a enterprise wide senior technical role operating with matrix leadership within the IPT. Based on S&I portfolio complexity and needs integrates project managers as direct reports to assure delivery of the S&I project portfolio
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Lead a cross-functional product focused team (matrix) with the accountability to deliver the defined outcome (KPI and value add realization) of the IPT relevant S&I project portfolio. May manage S&I project managers directly to assure the delivery of S&I projects.
Accountable for the delivery of the S&I project portfolio, by
- Driving the projects through a direct key project role via sponsorship, direct project management and/or technical lead
- Establishing the S&I project KPIs, plus track and act (accountable for achievement)
- Assure S&I project value-add realization as defined in business case
Technical responsibility for S&I project portfolio maintenance and continuous improvement
- Assess and prioritize based on current business needs improvement/best practice opportunities for selected product (in exchange with partners in Operations and within the IPT, i.e. MS&T lead) and integrate in consultation with the IPT lead into the S&I project portfolio for consideration and select those opportunities that provide meaningful benefits to the company (business case driven) and patients.
- Work closely with the various manufacturing sites, IPT leadership team and global partners to identify and to bring continuous improvement and best practice to the relevant IPTs and integrate in the S&I project portfolio.
- Provide leadership and direction for the S&I portfolio of projects for the in-scope product, aligned within the IPT and with internal stakeholders like Network strategy, Operations Value Stream partners, Project delivery
- Manage interdependencies between IPT relevant S&I projects, i.e. by developing and owning a technical Product Roadmap for the portfolio of projects in scope
- Prepare and ensure business/financial drivers, especially for project portfolio prioritization are understood by the team and built into the Roadmap
Foster and manage successful relationships with senior executive stakeholders to manage expectations and achieve successful S&I project portfolio outcomes. Integration of the S&I project portfolio into the established governance process.
Review and approve global process changes, project stage gates (technical), tech transfers, and if required multi-site CAPAs in context of the S&I project portfolio
- Support the respective IPT lead with product performance health management and general product KPI definition and delivery
- Support the MS&T organization with enterprise-wide product technical expertise
Education
- BS in Engineering or Scientific field required. Advanced degree in a relevant Technical Field preferably combined with relevant post-graduate qualifications.
Experience
- 10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical production environment with significant exposure to GMP environment.
- Very strong knowledge in biopharmaceutical production processes and/or process development and validation.
- Strong data management knowledge.
- Six Sigma qualification and experience preferred
- Experience as a manager position preferred.
- Experience in interdisciplinary teamwork and matrix organizations.
- Proven experience in managing strategic projects, project management/risk and issue management and reporting in a highly regulated environment.
- Excellent knowledge of performance evaluation techniques (key metrics) and change management principles
