DESCRIPTION
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, overhauls, and rebuilds on Cummins High Horsepower engines in a field‑service environment with minimal supervision.
Support Rio Tinto’s mining operations by ensuring maximum fleet availability, reliability, and operational safety.
Carry out scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance, following Cummins and OEM procedures.
Interpret complex engine system interactions—including fuel systems, electronic controls, cooling, exhaust/aftertreatment, and driveline—to accurately identify and resolve root causes.
Provide onsite customer support, manage expectations, and communicate technical outcomes clearly and professionally.
Coach, mentor, and support junior technicians and apprentices, including reviewing repair plans, parts interpretation, and workflow accuracy.
Complete all service documentation, warranty claims, technical notes, and diagnostic reports within Cummins systems.
Identify potential sales or service opportunities, such as component upgrades, parts requirements, or preventative maintenance improvements.
Maintain company tooling, equipment, and service vehicle in safe, clean operating condition.
Comply with all Cummins and Rio Tinto Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) requirements, participating actively in hazard reporting, Take 5s, and continuous safety improvement initiatives.
Escalate complex technical issues through defined Cummins technical escalation channels to ensure timely and accurate resolution.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Significant field service experience with expert‑level technical capability in Cummins High Horsepower (HHP) engines (QSK19, QSK38, QSK50, QSK60).
Proven experience working on large mining fleets, including:
Komatsu 830E haul trucks
Komatsu WA1200 loaders
Komatsu PC550 excavators
Hitachi EX5600‑7 excavators
Ability to interpret and use Cummins INSITE, electronic diagnostic tools, technical publications, and troubleshooting workflows.
Strong problem‑solving and decision‑making skills when working with high‑complexity systems and remote field conditions.
Excellent communication skills with a strong customer‑service focus.
Vocational trade qualification (Cert III Heavy Diesel or equivalent); Apprentice‑trained Engine Technician preferred.
Valid driver’s license and ability to meet site access, medical, and compliance requirements.
