Deloitte Access Economics is Australia’s premier education analysis and advisory practice.
The education practice at Deloitte Access Economics is continuing to expand and we are seeking a talented education research and policy analyst to join our team.
Our team is a large specialist national practice comprising of more than 25 full-time economists, public policy practitioners and educationalists across Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Perth and Melbourne.
This team brings the highest-grade analysis and advice to the complex challenges and imperatives of the evolving education landscape. We are ambitious and innovative and invest in each other through continuous learning and a shared depth and diversity of experience.
Our clients span all states and territories, and include government departments, universities and TAFEs, and a range of non-government agencies with an interest in education policy and delivery. Our work extends across the entirety of the education continuum from early childhood through to schooling, vocational training and higher education.
Our work has influenced a breadth of significant education policies and reforms around Australia since our beginnings more than a decade ago – including the development of funding models, in-depth reviews of system performance and reform, as well as practice and program evaluations.
In recent years, our team has:
- Undertaken an independent evaluation of the major Victorian Government Tutor Learning Initiative, developed in response to the impacts of COVID on student learning outcomes.
- Led a number of major reviews of school funding models across Victoria, Queensland and the Northern Territory.
- Estimated the economic impact of improving school quality in Australia, and have undertaken significant original research on the drivers of quality in Australian schools to informal national schooling policy.
- Conducted a large scale review of support for students with disabilities in Queensland Government schools.
What would your typical day look like?
Your opportunity within the national education practice at Deloitte Access Economics will be to:
- support the delivery of quantitative and/or qualitative research projects for public and private sector clients across Australia.
- undertake original research and analysis including engaging with stakeholders (including schools and early childhood services), contributing to the work of diverse teams across multiple offices
- develop high quality reports and presentations for a range of audiences
- build knowledge across the practice, including sharing your expertise and experience in the sector across the team and developing thought leadership to stimulate debate, influence with our clients and their stakeholders.
- contribute to our high performing culture by mentoring, coaching and guiding the professional development of our team, challenging their perspectives and providing opportunities, through our work program, to achieve their aspirations.
Enough About Us, Let’s Talk About You
The Education Policy and Advisory team is seeking talented individuals with a passion for education policy and research, a commitment to high quality analysis and advice, and a desire to work in a fast-paced and influential, team environment.
We are seeking individuals with a range of prior experiences and skills. There is flexibility in the position and remuneration available for the role based on the extent of your experience and qualifications.
In joining our team, you will bring the following attributes:
- A relevant degree with either a quantitative or policy focus (such as education, public policy, economics, law, etc.) preferably with Honours or above, with strong academic results.
- Up to four years’ experience in a relevant role, ideally in a research institute, think tank, consulting firm, or government agency. Recent doctoral or Masters graduates with relevant research expertise are also encouraged to apply.
- A passion for education policy and an understanding of contemporary issues related to the education sector in Australia and internationally. Previous experience working on education policy is desirable but not essential. An interest in school education policy is especially welcome.
- Experience in using a range of tools for analysis and communication, including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, and statistical software (e.g., R, STATA) is desirable.
- Demonstrated interest and capabilities in applied research and policy analysis.
- Strong critical thinking skills, adeptness in a project team environment, strong written communication, and a motivation to learn from and with your colleagues.
Location
Our work is national in scope, and our team lives and works around the country. You will be able to work out of the Deloitte office in any Australian Capital city (i.e., Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane, Darwin, Perth, Hobart, Adelaide) , and flexibly to work from a home office, in a combination that works for you.

The minimum salary for this position is $65,000 including 10.5% superannuation.
