The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) is looking for a vibrant, highly motivated and driven senior executive to lead the Resource and Environmental Regulation Group.

This opportunity is a Senior Executive Service (SES) role for a fixed term, full-time appointment for up to five (5) years.

About us

The Resource and Environmental Regulation Group provides regulatory and policy oversight of the resources sector, in all areas apart from worker safety. The group also delivers the department's geoscience functions, reducing risk for explorers and increasing the attractiveness of Western Australia as a destination of choice for resource companies.

Responsible for the regulation of one of Western Australia's largest industry sectors, Resource and Environmental Regulation Group play a critical role in building and strengthening Western Australia's economy whilst ensuring the State's resources are developed in a sustainable and responsible manner.

The position

The Deputy Director General provides strategic direction and leadership to the Resource and Environmental Regulation Group on regulatory and policy oversight of the resources sector.

With your extensive leadership experience, you will be responsible for actively promoting strategies, policies and systems that provide strategic direction, and contribute to the achievement of corporate objectives and outcomes.

As a member of the Corporate Executive team, this role is responsible for:

  • Supporting the Director General, and providing high level strategic direction and leadership to the Resource and Environmental Regulation Group on regulatory and policy oversight of the resources sector;
  • Providing executive level oversight of resource tenure, environmental compliance and geoscience resource activities, with clear accountability to deliver DMIRS strategies;
  • Formulating short to long-term strategic and operational plans and related outcomes and efficiently and effectively allocating and using resources within the Group to achieve outcomes; and
  • Providing leadership by actively promoting systems to achieve corporate objectives and outcomes with a focus on the coordination and integration of efficient and effective corporate systems.

This position is located in East Perth.
