The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) is looking for a motivated and results driven senior executive who will lead and actively promote strategies, policies and systems that support strategic direction of the Department and its Licensing Services Division.

This opportunity is a Senior Executive Service (SES) role for a fixed term, full-time appointment for up to five (5) years.

About you

We are looking for an experienced, dynamic and strategic leader, who is able to manage competing priorities, drive and implement significant and innovative change and deliver superior customer and stakeholder outcomes.

The Director Licensing Services will be leading teams responsible for a wide range of licensing activities, including building and energy, WorkSafe, high risk work, dangerous goods and consumer protection.

Experience in establishing and maintaining effective partnerships, networks and forums with key internal and external stakeholders will be critical. In this role you will use your highly developed communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate and negotiate with key regulators, other public sector agencies, the private sector and other stakeholders.

Excellent leadership skills and proven experience in creating, leading and motivating high performing teams will also be required, along with strategic program and project management experience and the skills required to work within a complex legislative environment.

You will be working with the Executive Director Service Delivery to meet the Department’s objectives and drive reform and digital transformation of licensing services to deliver better outcomes for the community. This is an exciting time to join DMIRS and help shape the future of occupational and industry licensing in Western Australia.

This position is primarily located in Cannington, but the successful candidate will have the opportunity to visit the Department’s metropolitan and regional locations.
