Join us as a Senior Geologist and shape the future of geoscientific data. An exciting opportunity for a Senior Geologist has arisen within the Mines and Mineral Deposits (MINEDEX) branch within the Geological Survey and Resource Strategy Division.

Within the Resource and Environmental Regulation Group the Geological Survey and Resource Strategy Division (GSRSD) is responsible for the facilitation of investment through the provision of geoscience data and products and for setting strategic resource policy. The division manages the Abandoned Mines Team, and the Exploration Incentive Scheme including the co-funded drilling program. The division also provides information and products to support the approval of mining tenements and petroleum titles and other related legislative compliance processes.

About the role
As a Senior Geologist, you will be an integral part of our team, undertaking capture and maintenance of geoscientific and commodity information including industry data using a variety of databases. You will also provide geoscientific advice within your field of expertise on general matters, Mining Act issues and for ministerial briefing purposes.
Drawing on your experience in working with databases and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), you will track industry activity by compiling and editing the Mines and Mineral Deposits (MINEDEX) database and other corporate mineral-oriented databases. MINEDEX is a spatial and textual database providing comprehensive data on mining and exploration sites and projects in WA to the public, industry, internal users in the department and to other departmental systems integrated with MINEDEX. Your strong analytical skills, extensive industry knowledge and experience in mineral and/or petroleum geoscience studies, including the demonstrated ability to compile quality comprehensive reports and maps to publication standard, will enable you to contribute professional expertise to the formulation and implementation of improved products and processes.
The role requires a self-motivated person with a good understanding of the exploration and mining sector, who has experience working with a variety of stakeholders and enjoys sharing knowledge with peers and team members.

- Experience in working with databases and geoscientific content, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and previous experience in contributing to database or GIS improvement projects would be an advantage.
Please note a Bachelor of Science (Geoscience) or an approved equivalent degree will also be required for this role. A post graduate qualification in geoscience would also be an advantage but not a role requirement.
