The role

As the Consumer Fraud Liaison Officer, you will be responsible for dealing with enquiries from the community about suspected consumer-related fraud and scam activities. You will assist consumers to identify scams and to provide advice as to how they can protect themselves, what actions can be taken and what assistance may be available to them if they have become a victim.

You will conduct research and investigations into potential scams and internet fraud, identifying and reporting on the nature of specific scams and emerging trends. Your work will contribute to minimising financial loss and disrupting the activity of scammers. Additionally, you will develop reports, correspondence, educational and training material on avoiding and dealing with scams and internet fraud for the provision and delivery of presentations to consumers and businesses alike, including media appearances.

Your skills and experience in methodically collecting information, conducting research and analysis, will be key to your success in this role. Your ability to display and communicate empathy with vulnerable consumers and victims of scams and other fraudulent activities will also be essential for this role.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 24 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.

  1. a detailed CV (no more than five pages) targeting the role specific requirements as outlined in the JDF and in particular demonstrated experience in communicating with vulnerable consumers, and in researching, analysing and identifying trends.
