The role
The Industry Regulation and Consumer Protection Legal Division is responsible for providing legal advice to Departmental clients that is accurate, timely and solution focussed.
As a Lawyer under the supervision of the General Counsel and Assistant General Counsel, you will advise on the interpretation and application of legislation administered by the Department. Your remit will also consist of conducting straightforward litigation, for example as trial counsel with a focus on Industry Regulation and Consumer Protection, Building and Energy, and Labour Relations.
A typical day could consist of providing high quality, relevant and accurate legal advice, with appropriate supervision conducting criminal prosecutions, appearing as counsel and representing the Department, and preparing a variety of legal documents.
You will be supported by an experienced team, and you will have an opportunity to assist the senior lawyers with more complex cases.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part-time) within the department for the next 24 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.
To be eligible for appointment, applicants must have a valid working visa (for fixed term appointments) or be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or have a visa to live and work indefinitely in Australia (for permanent appointments) at the time of application.

How to apply
We ask for you to provide a detailed resume outlining your key achievements, work history, education and professional development and covering letter of no more than three (3) pages, addressing the following role specific requirements:
- Demonstrated experience in providing clear and concise written or verbal legal advice on a broad range of matters.
- Demonstrated understanding of the rules of the Courts and the State Administrative Tribunal or the ability to acquire such knowledge.
- Demonstrated experience in researching legal questions, analysing data and identifying legal problems and their potential solutions.
