The opportunity
Some people are known for doing the job well.
Others become the person everyone calls when they need the answer.
We're looking for a Senior Technical Officer (STO) to join our Energy Networks team, bringing advanced technical expertise to the construction, operation and maintenance of critical gas infrastructure. This is a role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, sharing knowledge and helping others develop their skills.

Whether its fault finding on gas control equipment, supporting major maintenance activities or providing guidance during high-risk work, you'll play a key role in keeping the network operating safely and reliably.
If you've built a strong gas industry career and are ready to take the next step into a respected technical leadership position, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll do

- Support the construction, commissioning, maintenance and operation of critical gas assets
- Lead fault-finding, diagnostics and troubleshooting activities

- Support Supervisors with work planning, sequencing and technical reviews
- Provide technical leadership during complex, high-risk and non-routine works
- Assist with emergency response, operational support and standby activities
- Help drive a strong Zero Harm culture through leadership and example
What we offer
- Permanent opportunity within a growth industry that is continuously expanding and evolving.
- Work on critical infrastructure that supports homes, businesses and communities.
- Suite of Downer benefits, including health and wellness initiatives.
- Join an organisation that truly values and practices flexible working options and has a demonstrated focus on diversity and inclusion.
- Opportunity to develop into a recognised technical leader within the gas industry.
What we're looking for
- Trade qualification as a Fitter & Turner, Mechanical Fitter or equivalent gas industry background
- Extensive experience working with gas pressure regulating and control equipment
- Strong practical knowledge of valves, regulators, pilot systems and pressure control operations
- Proven ability to mentor and support the development of field-based employees
- Experience working within construction, maintenance or operational gas network environments
- Strong understanding of permits, isolations, purging, venting and safe work practices
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical information clearly
- A safety-first mindset and commitment to operational excellence
