Description

We’re on the lookout for enthusiastic, reliable, and motivated people to join our team as Patient Food Services Assistants (FSA) helping deliver fresh, healthy meals that brighten the day for patients in hospital care.

If you’re passionate about food, teamwork, and making a real impact in people’s lives, this is your chance to start something meaningful. You’ll be part of a supportive crew that values growth, positivity, and the satisfaction of doing work that helps others.

With full-time opportunities available across a 7-day roster (0500–2200), this is your opportunity to build experience, learn valuable skills, and be part of a team that keeps things running smoothly, all while doing work you can feel proud of.

What you'll do:

  • Prepare, assemble, and plate hot and cold meals according to dietary requirements and menu plans

  • Ensure food safety compliance by following HACCP procedures, cleaning protocols, and correct food handling practices

  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of kitchen equipment, work areas, and utensils to a high standard

  • Receive, store, and rotate stock following FIFO (First In, First Out) principles and report low stock levels

  • Accurately complete all food safety documentation and actively participate in infection control and quality improvement initiatives

What you'll bring:

  • Previous experience in food service, kitchen hand, or catering roles (healthcare experience desirable)

  • Possession of a Food Hygiene Certificate or Workplace Hygiene Certificate

  • Strong communication and time management skills with the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

  • A positive, flexible attitude and a team-oriented mindset

  • Commitment to safe work practices, attention to detail, and pride in maintaining a clean and professional appearance

Why Downer?

We especially encourage applications from those whose voices have traditionally been underrepresented in our industry, including women, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, Māori and Pasifika Peoples, veterans, people with disability, and neurodivergent individuals. Even if your experience doesn’t align perfectly with this role, we’d still like to hear from you. If it feels like the right fit, apply - potential counts, and so do you.

Please note: As a pre-requisite for this role, successful candidates will be required to undertake a pre-employment medical, as well as provide an up-to-date National Police Clearance and Immunisation history.

As a WORK180 Endorsed Employer, we support flexibility that works for your life, inclusive leadership that values your voice, and equitable access to opportunity so you can do your best work and bring your whole self to it.

If you need support or adjustments through the recruitment process, just let us know, we’re here to help you put your best foot forward.
