We are looking for an experienced HR Advisor or Senior HR Advisor to join the Downer Transport, People and Culture team. You’ll be part of a National team responsible for providing effective, efficient and professional delivery of HR advisory services.
The successful candidate will be based from our Te Rapa, Hamilton office.
About the role
Working with a team of HR professionals, you will provide quality human resource advice and guidance that is in line with Downer policy and statutory requirements. The role supports line managers and supervisors requiring assistance with disciplinary matters, poor performance, employment related investigations, fitness for work and medical incapacity cases across Downer nationally.
Our HR Advice team remotely support line managers and employees nationally via mobile, email and MS Teams by being the first point of contact for HR matters. You will work closely and collaborate with our regionally based HR Business Partners; providing practical support.
Our HR Advice function provides end-to-end generalist HR support and is supported by the HR Coordinator and HR Administrator. This is a busy and reactive service and we use online tracking and reporting tools to ensure real-time visibility over workloads and processes. Delegation or escalation of complex ER matters will be supported by our Employment Relations Lead or HR Operations Manager as required.
In the senior advisory capacity, the role will support HR Business Partners with proactive and strategic HR initiatives and change management processes.
About you
As an HR practitioner, you’ll have a solid understanding of NZ employment law and contracts, gained through a tertiary related qualification or significant practical experience in an HR role.
You’ll also bring with you:
- Strong relationship management skills, including building effective relationships with all levels of the company as well as effectively managing conflict
- The ability to influence and constructively challenge
- Strong organisational skills and processes, including being an experienced user of MS Office applications, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook. We use MS Teams and SharePoint online so proficiency with these tools are a bonus.
- A customer focus ethos including the ability to develop solutions for all stakeholders
- The adeptness to work in a complex environment, dealing with ambiguity and across functions
- A self-driven focus and be someone who can take the initiative in a fast paced and agile environment
- Experience working with collective employment agreements is beneficial but not essential.
