Due to the expansion of Paving operations across New Zealand, we are looking for highly motivated and flexible individuals to operate and travel alongside our Mobile Asphalt Plant. When the mobile plant is not active, you will step in to support operations for Downer fixed Asphalt plants across the country which could include; Whangarei, Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, New Plymouth, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin, or Invercargill.
About the job:
You'll be one of three Mobile Asphalt Plant Operators, part of a dedicated crew who travel to provide operational support to our mobile and fixed Asphalt Plants. You will be away from your ‘home base’ for prolonged periods of time, depending on where projects fall.
In this role, you will essentially be responsible for ensuring that asphalt plants, bitumen plants and loaders are presented, serviced, maintained and operated in a professional, safe and efficient manner that complies with all relevant legislation, regulation and policy and achieves agreed productivity and quality targets.
The roles are full time, permanent positions with no specified location. These roles are new to Downer NZ, so this is your opportunity to be a part of some exciting change!

About you:
First and foremost, you need to be extremely flexible and willing to travel at any time throughout the year, we aim to provide 2-3 weeks’ notice of movements, but flexibility is key. You'll be comfortable working away from home for extended periods and be self-motivated and driven to achieve targets independently and as a team.
We'd value the following skills and experience, however full training will be provided for the right candidate:
- Full Class 1 NZ Drivers Licence essential - Class 2+ NZ Drivers Licence with WTR and Forklift endorsements an advantage
- Experience or exposure to civil plant operations - Asphalt Plant, Bitumen Plant and Wheeled Loaders
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as you will work with an extensive range of Downer and contracting crew members
- Commitment to a high standard of Health & Safety
- Experienced and able to learn computer systems
