Downer Rail & Transit Systems has over 100 years’ rail experience providing end-to-end, innovative transport solutions, with the largest rollingstock capability in Australia.

Downer have been announced as the preferred applicant to deliver the Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP), the largest investment in new rollingstock in Queensland history. As part of this program Downer will deliver:

  • Design, manufacture and commissioning of 65 six-car passenger trains
  • Design and build of two training simulators
  • Design, construction and commissioning of a purpose-built train manufacturing facility at Torbanlea, in the Fraser Coast region
  • Design, construction and commissioning of a maintenance facility and stabling yards at Ormeau, in the Gold Coast region
  • Maintenance of the new rollingstock fleet, simulators and the Ormeau maintenance facility for an initial term of 15 years and a maximum term of 35 years.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Tertiary qualifications in HR, business, law or a related discipline, with a minimum 10 years’ experience as a HR Manager accountable for service delivery within a Rail or heavy industry major project environment.
  • Strong level of IR/ER and management experience including the application and interpretation of industrial instruments and legislation within the Australian IR Legislative framework;
  • Strong negotiation and interpretation of EBAs.
  • Experience in providing effective strategic HR advice and support to leaders on issues including the development and delivery of cultural change, building talent and capability and coaching;
  • Sound, negotiating and influencing skills;
  • Proven experience working to tight time frame in a changing environment;
  • A pragmatic and commercial focus on solutions to complex industrial / HR issues;
  • Financially astute and demonstrable experience in managing budgets to deliver projects, plans, change programs and events aligned to the overall business strategies;
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills with the ability to turn work around very quickly;
  • Strong stakeholder management and interpersonal skills with a solid ability in negotiation, persuasion and positive engagement of senior leaders;
