Downer is an industry leader in water, providing water services to a quarter of New Zealanders. We support our customers across the full asset lifecycle from the conceptual development of a project through design, construction, commissioning and whole-of-life support and optimisation.
From irrigation schemes stretching hundreds of kilometres to the design, build, operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plant, we have the knowledge and collaborative approach to deliver high performance water infrastructure.
We are looking for a driven, results-orientated Water Operations Manager to join our busy Water team based in Tauriko, Tauranga. This role will be a part of the wider management team and will be vital in ensuring the effective delivery of our key contracts with the Tauranga City Council & Western Bay of Plenty District Council.
You will work closely with the Contract Manager, while providing leadership, guidance & development to the Supervisors reporting into you, and larger water team.
About the role:
Organisation is key in this role, people management will be a strength of yours, as well leading forward planning and coordinating resource.
This is a hands-on role; you will be responsible for:
- Business unit efficacy, profitability & quality of work
- Billing/Claiming management
- Ensuring all Zero Harm and Quality requirements are met
- Recruitment across the water team
- KPI overview and performance
- Fleet/Capex/Tools management
- Managing admin team with workloads and performance
- End of month financials, WIP and P&L
- Business development
- Ensuring that staff training and development plans are implemented.
Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills
Ideally you will have a qualification or experience in water, drainage, mechanical or similar, and you would need to be able to demonstrate success in a Contract or Operational Management role, ideally in the operations and maintenance space or similar, but not subject to. You’ll have positive leadership skills, collaborative by nature and the ability to lead and enable others and excel in utilising your adaptable communication skills.
Combining these together, you’ll be driven, committed and hard-working. You’ll have strong time management skills and enjoy working as part of a team. You’re passionate about delivering great results and can comfortably communicate with other managers and field staff to deliver on time and budget.
