The Lead Data Engineer at Downer is a critical role within our Data and Analytics team. Reporting directly to the Head of Data and Analytics, the Lead Data Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing our data engineering solutions on the Azure platform. This role combines technical expertise in Azure services with strong leadership and management skills.

Day to day you will be involved in:

• Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and workflows using Azure Data Factory, Azure OpenAI, Generative AI, Azure Databricks, and other relevant Azure services.
• Build and manage data models and datasets using Azure Analysis Services and Azure Synapse Analytics.
• Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines for data engineering solutions using Azure DevOps.
• Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to deploy and operationalize machine learning models.
• Ensure data quality, security, and compliance standards are met.
• Troubleshoot and optimize data engineering processes for performance and scalability.

Nga pūkenga matua | Important Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field (Master's preferred).
• Proven experience in data engineering, with a focus on Azure technologies.
• Strong proficiency in Azure Data Factory, Azure Databricks, Azure Analysis Services, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Azure DevOps.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation in data engineering.
• Knowledge of machine learning and its integration with data engineering pipelines.
• Leadership experience with the ability to manage and mentor a team.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Experience required: 5+ years as Data Engineer.
